How We Do It
Children’s Law Center is only possible due to the generosity and passion of all of the wonderful people and organizations that support us.
Donors
CLC is not funded by any governmental agency and relies solely on donations and grants. Thank you to all of our donors and grantors for making CLC possible.
Attorneys
In 2007, 43 lawyers from seven Winston-Salem law firms volunteered over 200 pro bono hours for CLC.
Volunteers
In addition, 16 individuals volunteered over 300 hours in 2007 to support the CLC staff and pro bono attorneys.
Staff
Our pro bono staff works tirelessly to ensure a voice in court for the 566 children in the nearly 400 cases we handled in 2007.
Mrs. Penelope (Penny) Orr Spry, JD – Executive Director
Prior to co-founding the CLC, Penny worked pro bono at the Legal Aid Society of Northwest NC in its Child Advocacy Project for almost two years. Mrs. Spry is a graduate of Wake Forest University Law School and served on the Law Review. She currently serves on the board of Action for Children in Raleigh (formerly the North Carolina Children’s Advocacy Institute), as well as other local and statewide organizations and committees advocating for children.
Ms. Amy K. Kuhlman, JD – Director of Operations
Amy worked pro bono at the Legal Aid Society of Northwest NC in its Child Advocacy Project for four years prior to co-founding the CLC. She received her JD from the New England School of Law. In 2004, she was awarded the “WXII 12 Those Who Care” Award for her volunteer work at the Legal Aid Society.
Ms. Judy Rabil, JC – Parenting Coordinator
Ms. Rabil is also a graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law. Currently, she is one of only three trained “parenting coordinators” in Forsyth County. She works to address the 2 – 3 education related cases or issues CLC receives each week.
