Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. This behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. 

In North Carolina, each public school district and charter school is required to have a policy prohibiting bullying, including: 

• Consequences and appropriate remedial action for a person who bullies 

• Procedures for reporting acts of bullying, including a provision that permits a person to report bullying anonymously 

• Procedures for prompt investigation of reports of bullying

Students with disabilities are entitled to additional bullying protections, even if the bullying is not related to their disability.
